Call for Presentations for 2017 THA Leadership Summit

THA’s Tennessee Center for Patient Safety, The Tennessee Organization of Nurse Executives, Tennessee Nurses Association, Tennessee Society for Organizational Improvement, and the Tennessee Association for Healthcare Quality are pleased to announce plans for the 12th annual Leadership Summit, which will be held on October 11, 2017 in conjunction with THA’s annual meeting at the Music City Center in downtown Nashville.

The Leadership Summit will continue the tradition of highlighting Tennessee hospitals and health systems’ successful strategies to create a culture for performance excellence and improve patient outcomes.

The keynote speaker for the Summit will be J. Bryan Sexton, PhD, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Duke University School of Medicine and Director of Patient Safety Center, Duke University Health System. Dr. Sexton has captured the wisdom of frontline caregivers through rigorous assessments of safety culture, teamwork, and workforce resilience. His research instruments have been used all over the world in over 3,000 hospitals, in 30 countries. His current R01 grant from NIH is a randomized clinical trial of resilience training. He has studied teamwork, safety and resilience in high-risk environments, such as the commercial aviation cockpit, the operating room, and the intensive care unit, under funding from NIH, NASA, AHRQ, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Swiss National Science Foundation, and the Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz Foundation.

Like last year’s Leadership Summit, we are seeking presentation proposals from hospitals across Tennessee that demonstrate and share best practices on fostering an organizational culture for excellence, quality and patient safety improvement successes, engaging patients and families, navigating transitions of care, and strategies to promote collaboration and teamwork. This is a great opportunity to network and share successful strategies among hospitals, as well as recognize and reward staff members’ hard work on improving care for patients.

Please share the call for proposals throughout your organization and encourage your staff to apply for either a presentation or poster. Applications are due by July 21, 2017.

If you have any questions about the application process or the Leadership Summit, please contact Chris Clarke, 615-256-8240.
