Six Students Complete 2016 Agenda 21 Internship Program

Six students who completed the 2016 Agenda 21 Internship Program gave their final presentations on Friday, Aug. 12 to members of the THA Council on Inclusion and Health Equity, hospital guests and THA staff members.

The interns completed various projects related to lean process improvement, patient safety, hospital operations, diversity and inclusion, and human resources. Interns and their host hospitals included:

Tia Allen (Western Kentucky University), West Tennessee Healthcare, Jackson

John Baldwin (University of Memphis), TriStar Southern Hills Medical Center, Nashville

Philip Bankston (Meharry Medical College), Erlanger Health System, Chattanooga

Ashley Dowrick (East Tennessee State University), University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville

Ramandeep Kaur (University of Memphis), Regional One Health, Memphis

Araceli Vazquez (Middle Tennessee State University), Maury Regional Medical Center, Columbia

A profile sheet that includes reflections from interns on their experiences now is available. Contact information for individual students can be obtained by emailing Emily Schott at eschott@tha.com.

The Agenda 21 program aims to match minority students with executive level internships in hospitals across the state in an effort to diversify future hospital administration teams and boardrooms. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the program has produced dozens of alumni who now serve in leadership roles across the state and country.

Applications for interns currently are being accepted for the summer 2017 cycle. The cost to a hospital to host an intern is $10,000 and full details are available under the Council on Inclusion and Health Equity page on THA.com.

Hospitals who are interested in hosting an intern are asked to contact Emily Schott at THA, 615-401-7408 by Dec. 31.
