University of Tennessee Medical Center Earns Highest Award for Performance and Quality

The Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence (TNCPE) recently announced the University of Tennessee Medical Center has earned the prestigious TNCPE Excellence Award. The medical center is the only organization to win the 2016 Excellence Award, the highest TNCPE level of recognition, and one of just 23 organizations to do so since the inception of the TNCPE program in 1993.

“The University of Tennessee Medical Center is committed to excellence and sustainability,” Gov. Bill Haslam said. “This award underscores the medical center’s efforts to continually serve its patients and community while performing as a leader in the health care industry.”

To earn the distinction, organizations must participate in a multi-step assessment and exhibit world-class processes that can serve as role models for other businesses, healthcare facilities and systems, and educational and governmental entities throughout the state. The TNCPE evaluation process utilizes the Baldrige Excellence Framework™ established by the national Baldrige Performance Excellence Program, the national standard for recognizing organizational excellence.

“We share a unified goal at The University of Tennessee Medical Center to do our absolute best for our patients, their families and our community,” said Joe Landsman, president and CEO, University of Tennessee Medical Center. “By following TNCPE and the Baldrige Excellence Framework and working incredibly hard to continually improve every aspect of what we do, we accomplish our goal. I thank our team members, physicians, board of directors, volunteers, affiliates, and partners for their unending dedication to our patients and for deservedly earning the TNCPE Excellence Award.”

The medical center previously received the TNCPE Achievement Award in 2012 and 2014 and is one of 19 Tennessee organizations to be honored with 2016 recognition by TNCPE at the annual Excellence in Tennessee Awards Banquet in March.
