Workplace Violence Prevention Conference
February 18 @ 10:00 am - 2:30 pm
Violence in healthcare is higher than any other industry and mainly consists of patient to staff events. Organizations and staff are often not proactive in preventing aggressive events which escalate to a more serious level and can result in harm to the patient or the staff. Serious harm to staff, as well as the long-term impact of consistent abuse, result in employee trauma which ultimately affects organization-wide patient safety efforts. Federal agencies, accreditation bodies, and State legislatures are banding together to require healthcare organizations to take active steps to mitigate the risk of harm to employees. One of the common regulations is the establishment of a workplace violence prevention plan.
The purpose of this conference is to provide attendees with a sense of urgency related to workplace violence in their organization and the need to implement strategies that work to reduce this risk. The presenter will discuss the prevalence of violence in healthcare organizations, current healthcare culture, effects of violence on the staff and the system, and provide the participants practical strategies to reduce the risk of violence by patients. Proven tools for risk reduction and development of a workplace violence prevention plan will be provided.
