SUMMARY:2026 Critical Access Hospital CMS Conditions of Participation Ten Part Series
DESCRIPTION:Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) that accept Medicare must comply with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Conditions of Participation located in Appendix W in the manual. This ten-part webinar series will cover the CAH CoP manual\, including two webinars that address Patient Rights – one of the most cited areas cited by CMS. \nThere were changes and new regulations for CAHs in 2020\, including a change to all the tag numbers\, some which do not include Interpretive Guidelines or Survey Procedures. Changes include infection prevention and control and antibiotic stewardship\, QAPI and Discharge Planning. DESCRIPTION:On March 27\, 2026\, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) published interpretive guidelines and survey procedures for the recent updates for Acute Care and Critical Access Hospitals (CAH) regarding emergency services. \nThe new requirements address all patients\, and cover protocols\, provisions\, and staff training. They also include care of postpartum patients with pregnancy-related emergencies. \nThis program will cover the new regulations\, interpretive guidelines\, and more stringent\nsurvey procedures for protocols and provisions. Updates for staff training\, quality assurance\nand performance improvement (QAPI) and transfer requirements are still pending. \nAt the conclusion of this session\, participants should be able to: \n\nDescribe the new requirement for emergency services in Acute Care and CAHs.\nRecall possible medical and surgical emergencies to be considered\nDiscuss potential obstetrical emergencies to be considered.\nExplain the three key elements assessed for compliance during a survey.
