Plan to attend one of the THA HIIN regional bariatric patient workshops, conducted by Susan Gallagher, a nationally recognized expert in safety, outcomes and communication with an emphasis on bariatrics, skin and would care, safet patient handling and mobility, and risk and loss control. Excess patient weight and weight maldistribution interfere with patient and worker safety. There are significantly more handling injuries among workers caring for the individual with obesity. In addition, bias and pre-judgments interfere with meaningful care and dehumanize both workers and patients. This day-long course (8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) examines practical solutions to the common clinical challenges described above. Further, an understanding of attitude formation and personal weight bias is explored. This fast-paced, interactive course utilizes case studies, videos, and group activities.
