The Tennessee Hospital Association (THA) honored Rep. Bob Ramsey (R-Maryville) as a 2021 THA Hospital Hero for his dedication and commitment to hospitals in Tennessee. THA Hospital Hero Awards recognize lawmakers who prioritize policy issues that contribute to the health and wellness of all Tennesseans through their support for hospitals. Rep. Ramsey was presented the 2021 award at Blount Memorial Hospital, with hospital leadership and trustees in attendance.
“For years, Rep. Ramsey has played an integral role in support of key healthcare issues, including through his work as chairman of the House Health Subcommittee in the 112th General Assembly,” said Wendy Long, M.D., THA president and CEO.
In 2021, he was instrumental in passing legislation to improve workforce readiness of new nurses. Ramsey’s work to reach consensus among stakeholders on this workforce policy was key to the overall success of the legislation, which enables new nursing graduates to begin practicing under the supervision of experienced nurses while proceeding through the licensure process. Additionally, he has provided crucial leadership on a wide range of healthcare issues over the years and serves as a frequent sponsor for bills that hospitals.
“Rep. Ramsey’s traits as a thoughtful and collaborative leader have served him well in his chairmanship,” said Long. “Moreover, as a result of his career as a trusted healthcare professional, he understands the important relationship that exists between state government and hospitals. The 20th district and hospitals statewide are very fortunate to have an ally in the House of Representatives with the practical experience and constructive approach of Rep. Ramsey.”
