What is the program?
The THA Nurse Residency Program is a collaboration with Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program offered free of charge to Tennessee hospitals, particularly Critical Access Hospitals. This program will provide a competitive edge to hospitals seeking the recruitment and retention of new graduate nurses. The Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program has been shown to strengthen competencies when entering the practice setting in areas such as collaboration, communication, and delegation.
The THA Nurse Residency Program will provide education and professional development to new graduate nurses at the state level with an experienced clinical education specialist and program coordinator. We have cohorts in the spring and fall.
This project is funded under a Health Resources and Services Administration Grant with the State of Tennessee, Department of Health.

Collaborative Model
How does the program work?
Hospitals that implement the THA Nurse Residency Program would employ new nursing graduates and enroll them in the program at no cost to the facility or employee. Statewide cohorts would begin in September and February. Each Nurse Resident will participate in twelve professional development sessions, lasting 4 hours per month. Sessions will be coordinated and facilitated by the THA clinical staff and program coordinator.
In addition to the development of the Nurse Resident, THA and Vizient are also offering a preceptor development course for those orienting/mentoring new nurses. This preceptor development course is a part of the nurse residency program but can also be offered as a stand-alone professional development opportunity for staff. The course is an instructor-led, 4-hour course, provided on-site at your facility.
How can my hospital/system implement the program?
