Governor Bill Lee announced the final distribution of $10 million in small and rural hospital readiness grants this week to support smaller hospitals that are facing financial strain due to the ongoing response to COVID-19.
Spread across 29 hospitals in 28 counties, the grants help smaller hospitals bridge funding gaps created by reduced patient volumes while federal funds become available. Applicants were required to demonstrate that they are actively pursuing available federal relief.
”We would like to thank Governor Lee for his support of rural hospitals in Tennessee, and are very grateful for the funding that has been provided through the Small and Rural Hospital Readiness Grant program,“ said Bill Jolley, THA senior vice president, rural health issues.
“The impact of the pandemic has been profound and, due to both the current and projected long-term impact on small and rural hospitals, it was important to provide immediate support and address the financial needs and other necessary resources.
The small and rural hospitals that are located in communities across the state and fill critical roles as a reliable source of quality healthcare and as economic engines for the local economy. They are the cornerstones of their communities.”
