The Tennessee Hospital Association (THA) awarded new Healthcare Collaborative Grants to 15 hospital, health system, and academic institution partnerships in Tennessee. This grant provides each recipient with up to $50,000 in funding to support clinical placements and faculty training in an ongoing effort to combat the healthcare workforce shortage.
“A strong workforce starts with a strong healthcare student experience. This grant addresses barriers, primarily the shortage of clinical placement opportunities for students,” said Dr. Ferrol Thomas, DNP, RN, THA Director of Workforce Strategies. “Funding was awarded to those healthcare providers and academic institutions offering creative solutions. Our objectives are to increase clinical placement opportunities, improve resources and training for preceptors and clinical faculty training, and improve access to healthcare education overall. Through collaboration and investing in healthcare education, these students will be better equipped when they enter the workforce.”
Mending the workforce gap requires a multi-faceted approach across all occupations in the healthcare industry. Programs that have received funding include clinical faculty development, nursing, physical therapy, sonography, emergency medical services, and central sterile processing. Funding may also be used to support the implementation of healthcare apprenticeships, shared staffing models, and innovative student placement models.
