American Organization for Nursing Leadership – Tennessee

Purpose

The purpose of the AONL – TN is to advance and further develop effective nursing leadership and to facilitate quality nursing care by:

  1. Providing a medium for the interchange of ideas and dissemination of information.
  2. Providing voice to address current issues and trends that impact on healthcare.
  3. Promoting educational programs and learning activities.
  4. Acting as a catalyst or vehicle for promoting standards of care and standard of nursing practice.

 

History

AONL – TN began as the Tennessee Society of Nursing Service Directors (TSNSD) in 1973. In 1977, TSNSD was accepted for membership in the American Society of Nursing Service Administrators (ASNSA) later to become the American Organization of Nurse Executives (A.O.N.E.). The name was changed to Tennessee Society of Nursing Service Administrators in 1982, to the Tennessee Organization of Nurse Executives (T.O.N.E.) in 1985 and to American Organization for Nursing Leadership – Tennessee (AONL – TN) in 2019.
 

Member Eligibility

Full members are registered nurses licensed in Tennessee who are:

  1. Holding an organizational role of administration/management who are accountable for strategic, operational, and/or performance outcomes in sites where health care is delivered.
  2. Faculty in graduate nursing administration programs, including deans and directors.
  3. Consultants in nursing administration/management practice.
  4. Persons employed by JCAHO.
  5. Editors of professional nursing journals.

Associate members are registered nurses licensed in Tennessee who are:

  • Students enrolled in relevant degree program with a career path in nursing administration.

Honorary members are individuals who were past presidents of AONL – TN regardless of their current work positions as well as retired AONL – TN members. Full members who, because of change in position, unemployment, or relocation to another state, or who do not continue to meet the criteria for full or associate membership, may extend membership eligibility in their current membership category for one renewal period.
